Shiro Vasti Treatment

Shirobasti is a specific ayurveda treatment which is mainly indicated in Vata Rogas (neurological disorders) and Jathrudhwa gata Rogas (Head and Neck and ENT disorders). Shirobasti is a process in which warm medicated oil is made to stay stagnant on the scalp for a specific time in a proper formed frame made up of leather or rexine sheet.
The treatment procedure is divided in to three parts.
PURVA KARMA (PRE PROCEDURE)
Selection of the patient:- Selection of the patient for this procedure depends up on the diagnosis which is done with Astha vidha pareeksha’s(eight fold examination)and Dashavidha Pareeksha’s(ten fold examination) which depends on the specialization of the Physician.
Selection of the medicine:- The selection of the medicine for the procedure is based on the patient’s condition, the medicated oil is selected depending upon the Rogi bala (Strength of the patient) and Roga Bala(severity of the disease).
Preparing the patient for the procedure
Before starting the treatment, patient is advised to cut short their hairs so that it should not interfere during the procedure.
Under suitable ambience, patient is made to understand the shiorvasti procedure and its importance. Proper counseling is done by a team of doctors in Healing Earth Multispeciality Ayurveda Hospital, as it requires much patience to carry out the whole procedure.
With a help of leather or rexine sheet a cap is prepared according to the measurement of the patient’s head. The cap is fixed on the head with the help of dough in such a way that the medicine which is poured inside it should not leak and stand firmly till the completion of the procedure.
PRADHANA KARMA(MAIN PROCEDURE)
After preparing the patient and fixing the cap, the prescribed amount of warm medicated oil is poured slowly in to the cap till it covers the whole scalp . This medicine is made to stay stagnant for a period of 15 to 25 minutes depending up on the condition of the disease and the patient
PASHYAT KARMA(POST PROCEDURE)
After the treatment the oil is removed along with the dough, and gentle abhyanga(Massage) is done, and the person is advised to take rest for a while.
